FALL PERFORMANCE CLASSES

Musical Theatre Dance Techniques + Audition Techniques for Actors | Grades 6–12

This fall, Misfits is giving Middle and High School performers an opportunity to focus specifically on developing the skills they need to become stronger, more confident, and more prepared actors.

We are offering two Sunday classes:

MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE TECHNIQUES

Build confidence in the dance call!

Students will work on musical theatre dance technique, picking up choreography quickly, retaining combinations, performing movement with character, and becoming more comfortable walking into dance auditions.

The goal isn't to turn every actor into a dancer. It's to give performers the tools and experience they need to walk into a dance call feeling prepared and ready to work.

AUDITION TECHNIQUES FOR ACTORS

Take some of the mystery out of auditioning!

Students will work on finding and choosing material, preparing songs and monologues, making strong acting choices, taking adjustments, and developing audition material they can continue to use after the class ends.

We'll also talk about how audition expectations change depending on the show, style, director, and type of opportunity.

BUILD YOUR AUDITION BOOK

Actors participating in the courses will work toward leaving with:

• Two contrasting musical theatre audition cuts
• Two contrasting monologues
• Additional musical theatre dance experience
• Practical audition and callback experience
• The option to self-tape their prepared audition material

Rather than simply talking about auditioning, students will have opportunities to perform, receive feedback, make adjustments, observe their peers, and try their material again.

WHAT WE'LL EXPLORE

Students will learn:

• Where to find new songs and monologues for auditions
• How to choose material that showcases you as a performer
• How to choose the right key for your voice
• How to choose material appropriate for the style of a show
• How to approach musical theatre, acting, and dance auditions
• What to expect at a dance call
• Information about college and conservatory auditions
• How to take and apply adjustments in an audition or callback

Classes will incorporate conservatory-style observation and masterclass work. Students will learn not only by performing themselves, but also by watching, discussing, and supporting the work of other actors.
